Flight Plan...ish

Just after Christmas I did a dash to the 1950's. It was meant to be a secret...but...well you know....cats and bags!!

I was going to get the train, to Kings Cross and then one from there to Gatwick, but as I was deciding which shoes to take to the island (you have to be careful about this, you have to take shoes that can withstand high winds and sideways rain, if I wasnt the person I was and was more sensible I would just take trainers!!!) Laa-Laa rang and offered to drive me!! (to the airport..not to the 1950's!)

We set off in plenty of time, she has the same "thing" as me about being late and like me always arrives early to everything. So off we went, chatting away about christmas and family and...you know....stuff.

What we didnt know was that everyone in the entire country would also be traveling that day. And on the roads we were going on. We averaged about 30 m.p.h. As time passed I got more and more stressed about missing the flight and was pleading with every daity I coulod think of for the traffic to move faster.

I really shouldnt have worried...as we pulled up at the terminal....with about 40 mins to go before the flight took off and I ran to the desk begging them to allow me on, the nice B.A. woman informed me that as 50....thats 50....security staff hadnt turned up for work that day everything was delayed and the queue for going through the security checks was currently an hour and 35 minutes.
How does this happen? How do 50 people just decide not to go to work? I dont understand!

Anyway, I joined the back of the line which slowly snaked its way towards the people who will frisk me in a terribly personal and slightly embarressing way (I always make the machine beep!) and in a terribly British fashion didnt complain or tut or anything!

An hour after the flight was supposed to take off we boarded the flight. We taxed to the runway.....and then stopped...the "flaps" were not working!!
We went back to the terminal (after a 20 minute wait while they tried to fix it)
We got off flight.
We got on the bus.
We went "somewhere".
We walked for about 20 minutes to the information desk.
We were told that the "flaps" were now "flapping" and we could re-board the flight.
We walked back to the bus
etc....
etc...

We took off 4 hours after the original flight was meant to take to the sky's. I was texting the 1950's to tell them what was going on, what I didnt realise was they were at the airport for the entire time.....they had arrived to pick me up, and stayed....for 4 hours!!!!!

Now I made the decision to fly with B.A. because their planes are bigger than the ones I have flown on previously. I had issue with a landing I experianced the last time I flew "teeny-tinny" airways, and quite frankly I wanted a bigger and therefore less likely to be thrown around by the wind aircraft. (now I wish I had been braver and had alot of dutch courage and flown "teeny-tinny"!)

It didnt matter...... the 1950's is wonderful whatever time you get there.... however late that might be. I would wait much longer where-ever I had to just to go there.

grin xx
