Bugs

I think there are some particualy nasty, very clingy bugs around.

I know no end of people that are poorly, and have been poorly for what seems like ages...and thats just to me, the healthy one, for them it must seem much longer!!

Small was a bit poorly at the beginning of last week. I am sympathetic but unless you have a temperature or are actually being violently sick then I give her calpol and a cuddle and the message is ever so slightly 'I'm sorry your poorly, but get on with it'.

On wednesday she became more poorly. She did have a temperature and was all glassy eyed and tearful.

Thursday and Friday mornings were lovely!!....when we woke up and checked the patient, who was undoubtably still had a temp. and was still feeling very sorry for herself, Calpol was given and then we both went back to sleep!

She had the miracle recovery on saturday....... so she could go to a Brownie Sleepover.....which was a huge mistake. Not that she didnt enjoy herself, she did, they had a fantastic time, but the lateness of going to bed meant that she relapsed and had to have monday off school again. I dont regret her going to the sleepover, to be honest I thought she was well enough to be there, but you live and learn!

Tuesday she went to school, but returned home looking awful! She has gone again today and actually looks much better. She only has to get to Friday as then the Easter Holidays start and she has a couple of weeks to really recover.

The Bug that Small has, and the poorlyness that other people have experianced are not giving in easily. It makes me all O.C.D. about it. I have this theory you see, that if you dont have a harsh enough winter and enough time with the temperature below freezing then the bugs dont die, and they mutate and become super-bugs that take much more time to recover from.
And as we have had the 'warmest winter on record' it hasnt been cold enough for the germy bugs to die.

10 things.

That I love.

1) Family. (obviously Small is a Large part of that word)

2) Old Friends. The ones that know you best.

3) The Smell of things.

4) The autumn.

5) Christmas.

6) Kissing.

7) My home.

8) The ability to get around. To go see people/things, or just because.

9) Anticipation.

10) The feeling when you wake up and dont "have to" anything. You might "want to" but you dont "have to".

Racing to the Point.

On Saturday I went to the local Point to Point and to meet up with Mumbly and the Font of Good Advice.

I love the Point to Point. I have been going for what seems like forever, as Mumbly used to take us when we were quite small and it brings back loads of childhood memories.

I met Mumbly and the F.O.G.A. at the finishing post..... which is an old tradition, meeting up with those that we know there always in the same place, and then went to put money on the horses that were running in the first race.
Mumbly does it properly. She goes and sees the horses that are parading in the ring before they go out onto the course. She studies them, and then looks in the form guide to see how good they are.

The F.O.G.A. waits. He watches me put money on quite quickly, hoping that I have judged the right time to put the money on, hoping that he odds dont change to my disadvantage after I have placed my bet.
I dont use a terribly scientific method.I use a "girl method" I pick horses that arent the favorate (its amature racing, they might well fall at a fence or have a bad day, so the favorate might not win) but I do choose a horse that, has odds that mean it might well be in the running.

Then its all in the horse's name.

F.O.G.A. as I said waits. Right up until the horses are going up to the start. Then he quietly 'has a word' with the bookie and comes back slightly grinning.

We then all meet up again at the finishing post. To cheer and hope that the horse we are championing makes it round, and to make our day, wins.

Mostly you loose money at the point to point. There is not a single bookie that doesnt have a very new top of the range car for himself and at least two members of his family. He will have four hot and expensive holidays a year. Betting is a bit like going to the cash point, getting out some money and then handing it all to the person behind you in the queue.

But on Saturday. I won. I left the point to point with more money than I arrived with. And I played for lunch, a hot chocolate and a £10 getting in fee....and I bet on quite a few horses...and majoritively lost.....but to leave with more money than I arrived with was something that hasnt happened often and I was delighted!!

(and no F.O.G.A. I am not going to mention that you arrived in your Landy and how cool it looked!!x)

Small Losses.

We have had two little sad things happen this week. Two of our guinea pigs have died.

One was a unexpected, and one was the old lady, she had gotton progressively thinner and wasnt moving about so much, so it wasnt a suprise that I went out today and found her.

Because G.P's are group animals and dont do so well on their own I have found two new friends for the remaining pig. They are very frightened and scurry about when ever I have appeared, hiding with their heads down (so I cant see them!) and only coming out for food when they are sure I am not there.

They will be grand. In a week or so they will be braver and more friendly and we can get to know them.

...its sad though. I know they are only guinea pigs but we love them. We are greeted by them every morning with loud squeaks and chuntering and when they are in the run they are really cute and Small spends alot of time playing with them (with Stinky's help)
The two new ones which have yet to be named (heaven help them!) will soon be doing the squeeking and chuntering and all will be as usual.

Ad-olescant Shopping.

I had an email from Laa-Laa. She is visiting her parents for a bit and left her sons at home, and them being 12, 16 and a proper grown up~ with the eldest in his twenties she left them with confidence knowing that they would be fine.

There are obvious things that as a parent she was, quite without cause, worried about. The youngest getting off to school and back again hasnt been a problem, and she has taught them to cook and wash and iron (god their future wives are going to thank her!) so thats all been ok, however the email I received was about the shopping

Please see below the email sent to her from her middle son....who is hilarious.

If wishes were horses....would you ride?

If you could have the 'thing' you wanted to most, would you have it?...... with just a small pay off?

~If say, the thing that you wanted was a new Aston Martin. But you knew the payments of it would mean that you couldnt buy Shoes or Books like you wanted to would you have the car?

Astons' are cool. And new ones are shiny. And you have wanted it for a really long time. You have weighed up all the other cars against it, and despite there being other shiny new cars that come in all range of colours you want the bottle green one with the soft top, and the other ones are fine......but thats all they are...'fine', but the Aston is 'fiiinnneee' (grin) Would you take the pay off?

The BEST News.

On Sunday my twin phoned. After some small talk he asked how Small was. I blathered on about something or other and then he said

"Does she want a cousin?"

There was a pause while the information was processed and then I said, at the loss of anything else to say "Fuck off" and burst into tears.

The reason for this is that my twin and his wife, well, no-one thought they would ever have children. My sister-in-law (S.I.L. ) was really....thats really poorly when she and my twin first met (yes I know, I thought it was his fault too!) and although she has been fine since no-one was really sure about the whole children issue, and as S.I.L. has a reputation of being really scary (dont believe it, she's rude and funny and a complete wind up merchant with a completely straight face but a huge twinkle in her eye) mostly...and I use the term lightly....we have left it.

I couldnt be more delighted.
It is the best news I have heard for the longest time. They will be fantastic parents, and I know this is about them, but I cant stop being all teary about it, I know how much they are going to love the whole thing, being pregnant and then actually being parents, and how being a parent makes you feel, and I couldnt wish that feeling on any one better. I really couldnt.

~Its bloody marvelous~
